PITMAN, NJ (January 10, 2002)--- Processing Magazine, a Putman Media trade publication for the process industries, named the K-Tron Pharmaceutical Feeder as one of the “Breakthrough Products of 2001” in its December issue.  K-Tron introduced this sanitary feeder designed, specifically for use in the pharmaceutical industry, at the May 2001 Powder and Bulk Solids Trade Show in Chicago. The Pharma feeder (model K-PH-CV-KT20) was first introduced in Europe, where it has received wide acceptance, with over 100 units sold.  

Feeders used in the preparation of bulk pharmaceuticals and prescription and non-prescription drugs must meet stringent sanitary requirements that often vary from customer to customer resulting in high engineering costs with each project. 

K-Tron engineers studied the most common sanitary requirements of pharmaceutical customers and engineered a special model to meet the base sanitary requirements plus additional options.  This standardization minimizes the engineering required on each project and allows K-Tron to offer the sanitary feeder at an attractive price.

The stainless steel twin-screw feeder is available in both volumetric and gravimetric models and offers clear separation between the production area and the drive.  It is designed according to GMP guidelines, easy to clean and can be disassembled without tools.  The feeder offers the option of a stainless steel cover for the motor and gear box and can be integrated into a wall to offer further sanitary control.  It can also be outfitted for Clean in Place (CIP).  Common applications for this feeder include feeding into a jet mill for micronization plus feeding in extrusion and tablet press operations.
